250 Years of Quilts: The History and the Women that Made Them

The Ladies of the Lake Quilt Guild invites you to attend this month’s guild meeting.  Our speaker is Arlene Arnold, who specializes in vintage quilts. The meeting will be at 10:00 on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Lakeport Senior Center at 527 Konocti Ave., Lakeport, CA, United States, California.

Arlene Arnold’s focus in quilting is collecting pre-Civil War quilts and those from the Depression. She has quite a collection of antique and vintage quilts that she lectures on and shares with other quilters.

Arlene’s lecture, Heritage Oaks Quilts, celebrates our country’s 250th  Birthday in 2026!  How appropriate for July!
There are 25 quilts, one for each decade. With each quilt, there is a brief history of the time period of the quilt and the woman who contributed to her decade.

Also, on Saturday, bring your antique quilts, and for $10 per quilt, she will give you information about the era and history of the quilt.

On Sunday, Arnold will conduct a workshop on Lucretia’s Journey. This quilt pattern was inspired by part of Arlene Arnold’s quilt collection, “The Journey—Kentucky to California 1864.” The quilts help to illustrate the writings of Arlene’s great-great-grandmother Lucretia Epperson and her journey to California in a covered wagon.

Arlene has revamped the traditional way these blocks would be pieced to eliminate several seams for this quilt.  This makes for a fast-piecing experience and also a great flat top.

You will need 2 yards of dark and 2 yards of light fabric.  There is a bit of pre-sewing for this class if you choose to do so, to make your experience more enjoyable and fulfilling.

The workshop costs $35.00. For more information on attending this workshop, contact Gretchen Moore at 707-459-3141.
