May Drizzle
Raindrops take seven
seconds to disappear
into the concrete,
leaving as if they never came
in a staccato dance
of reveal and hide.
Thirty two hundred dots in
each blink
read like a time lapse video
of cell reproduction
and death.
Here today,
Gone tomorrow.
The rain is not enough
to satisfy the sidewalk's desire.
It begs for more
and pulls the rainbow closer
to slake its thirst
before the drizzle disappears
upward to the clouds,
vanishing quickly into
the blue afternoon.
