A Tranquil Atmosphere in the Heart of Napa – The Blue Note

With a plethora of live music events happening locally, it’s a rare occasion for me to venture elsewhere. However, when my son’s idol, the very inspiration for his college degree, announced a visit to the Blue Note in Napa, I had little excuse not to go with him. For locals, the Blue Note is the go-to spot for some of the most exceptional artists and musicians touring the United States. And on this particular evening, the stage was graced by the incomparable guitarist Trace Bundy.

The Blue Note calls the heart of Napa home. Soon, one realizes it’s all in the name. The color blue sets the tone and creates the most tranquil atmosphere. Exposed wood frames the tiled walls and ceiling and showcases the iconic corks and musical instruments wall. Open seating, booths for a more intimate setting, and bar seats make for a chill and relaxed dining experience. Every seat surrounds the open stage, making it and its heavy blue curtains the center of focus. Not to be outdone, the Blue Notes hospitality takes its job most seriously: Your comfort and enjoyment are their top priority.

Arrive early and enjoy a cocktail and starter. Sure, there are several wine choices at the Blue Note, considering it’s in Napa, but don’t underestimate their splendid house-special cocktails. Then, settle in for a bit of their sweet chili shrimp, light on the sweet and spicy and heavy in the Asian inspiration with Bangkok sauce, sesame, and peanut sprinkled on top. If you’re dining with friends, stick with finger foods to share and enjoy either their Margarita or BBQ chicken flatbread. But if vegetarianism is more your thing, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with their choices, either with your starter or plated dinner. And if you have room, their dessert menu is not to be underestimated, with sweet delights or their cheese board, including fig jam and fresh and dried fruits. Sure, the fruit makes it count as a dessert, but it might fare well as a starter.

With a satiated appetite and a fresh beverage of choice, the real reason for being at the Blue Note comes full swing. Trace Bundy takes the stage, graciously greeting guests and new arrivals as if we were invited to his home. But that’s easy to do in a relaxed atmosphere like this one, where he can take requests from the stage and banter with the audience.

With a stool to sit on and guitars to choose from, the magic of music takes hold. The energy is as real as his passion as he rises from the stool as if to lean further into his music, bringing his guitar to life. Living, breathing works of art are called sound; no, the magic of the guitar takes hold. The sound? Breathtaking, with every acoustic detail taken into consideration. The atmosphere? Spectacular. One can always listen with ease with a professional sound engineer in the house. The lighting is never interrupted, thanks to the Blue Notes blackout curtains containing the outdoor entrance light. It’s easy to get lost in the magic and good vibes. When the evening comes to a close, one knows this will not be goodbye for long.

The Blue Note hosts some of the world’s best-known artists, and it’s a sure thing you’ll have a good time no matter who you see. Visit the Blue Note website and see why.
