A Weekend Away in Kelseyville, Part 2

If you didn’t get a chance to read it, here’s a link to Part 1.

It’s a bright sunny morning at Suites on Main in Kelseyville, and the day is full of possibilities. And yes, our goal is still not to leave Main Street. So here’s how we do it. First, start the day with a great cup of coffee. There’s something to be said about consistency, especially when it comes to the morning’s consciousness. Rain or shine, weekdays or weekends, Studebaker’s Coffee Shop and Deli will not disappoint with their hours, coffee, sandwiches, and cheerful service.

It’s a little busier morning than usual at Studebakers Coffee Shop & Deli since it’s the first Saturday of the month. A hum of motors fills the street in front of Lady Luck Garage, where classic car owners gather for their monthly Cars & Coffee. There’s quite a collection of unique vehicles to admire, and laughter and happy conversation fill the morning air. Luckily the extra hustle and bustle doesn’t slow the attentive care Studebaker’s gives to every order.

While you’re there, be sure to take advantage of their fabulous sandwiches and breakfast options. For a delicious and healthy treat, grab a healthy California fresh bagel breakfast sandwich with egg, greens, and avocados for a fresh start to your day. But if indulgence is what you have in mind, their assortment of fresh pastries will satisfy any sweet tooth. For something savory, try their croissant breakfast sandwich; it might be filling enough to double as breakfast and lunch. Either way, your morning is off to a great start. Spending the morning enjoying cars, coffee, and friendly chatter is easy, especially when you really have nowhere else to be.

The bright morning sun settles into the day’s warm glow as shops begin to open for the day. It’s the perfect time to go window shopping. Two doors down is Pine, a clothing boutique where you’re bound to find the perfect outfit. Two Sisters Antiques is located in the courtyard, and you can browse local art at The Painted Bird Gallery. For the ideal souvenir, stop by A+H General Store for unique gifts, finger food treats, and maybe even some wine. Or, head down the street a bit further to maker. for local artisan goods, then end your adventure at Sophie’s Day Spa, where you might be tempted to have a scoop of ice cream while looking at more hand-crafted items for sale.

The sun rises a little higher in the sky. Luckily there’s always shade at The Saw Shop Public House. There, diners can enjoy their meal inside and cool off or enjoy the cool breeze under their expansive patio. The Saw Shop’s menu regularly changes, bringing new items and tasty surprises, even for regulars. But, regardless of your preferences, it’s difficult to choose what to order. Try out the Cali Benny, then enjoy the bottomless mimosas while you wait for it to come. Hey, what can go wrong with bottomless mimosas?

Get ready for the real deal. The Cali Benny is spectacular: the English muffin is chewy and holds up to the hollandaise sauce and heat, making the ideal base for the poached egg, fresh greens, and ham, all topped with their house-made sauce. Every bite is perfection, and every detail is noticed in the food and the attentive service. Your bottomless mimosa will never run dry—there’s no rush, and nowhere you have to go. Eventually, The Saw Shop Public House’s hospitality does what it does best: surpassing your expectations and broadening your waistline.

Now it’s time to retrace your steps and return to Main Street. After a few steps, you gain your stride. Just a few doors down is Fore Family Vineyard’s tasting room. It’s always a good idea to spend the afternoon wine tasting, but it’s even better when there’s an art show. Fore Family regularly holds exhibits of local artists. This month, photographer Karen Pavone, one of Lake County’s best photographers, has her work spread across the walls. Each is delightful, thoughtful, and beautiful.

It’s the perfect day when everything you need on vacation is only a few steps away. It’s not early in the afternoon, nor is it late. So there’s still time for more shopping, wine tasting, or a nap. The good news is, there isn’t a wrong choice, and if you can’t fit in today, there’s always time for it tomorrow!
