Aromas Cafe: The Epicenter of Lake County’s Culinary Scene

Odds are you have eaten some of the food prepared by someone who once earned their chops at Aromas Cafe. If you’ve gone out to eat at any restaurant in Lake County, it’s a certainty. That’s because Aromas has been the birthplace of many of the area’s best chefs for several years. Located on the Woodland Community College Clearlake campus, it’s a hidden gem, and a place where you can go to find some of Lake County’s tastiest food. And with only three more weeks before they close down for the semester, now’s definitely the time to enjoy it.

Aromas Cafe offers an eclectic menu that reflects the creativity and skill of its student chefs. From classic comfort foods to innovative culinary creations, there’s something for every palate. That’s what makes Aromas so special; There aren’t many restaurants where you can taste Julia Child’s Beef Bourguignon, sushi bowls, and nachos in one sitting. And don’t get too attached to one item, because next week it will be replaced with something completely different.

For example, take the most recent visit we made to Aromas. We were fortunate enough to catch it during their buffet, so we had our choice of over a dozen different dishes. Here are some highlights:

Wild Style Fries: Aromatic and tantalizing, these fries are a true treat for the taste buds. Topped with homemade BBQ sauce, pork, bacon, chives, cheese, and dots of sour cream, they’re a flavor explosion you won’t soon forget.

Omelet Station: Yes, it’s possible to get a custom-made omelet prepared by a student chef. Choose your favorite ingredients and watch them craft the perfect omelet to your specifications.

Ramen: Delicate broth. Gentle umami flavors. Aromas Cafe’s ramen is a comforting bowl of goodness that tantalizes the tastebuds.

Korean Chicken Fried Rice Burrito: A fusion masterpiece, this burrito is filled with fried rice, kimchi, and chicken, creating a symphony of spicy, crunchy, and fresh flavors in every bite.

Pasta Salad: Light and refreshing, Aromas Cafe’s pasta salad is the perfect side dish to accompany any meal. Made with fresh ingredients and tossed in a flavorful dressing, it’s a satisfying addition to any plate.

Bread Pudding: Their bread pudding is filled with flavor, sweet and caramel coated. Plus, if you get the chance, be sure to take advantage of their fall pie sales. Each pie is handmade and a taste sensation. All students are trained in French pastry techniques, so you can be sure that every dessert is going to be overwhelmingly good.

In addition to its mouthwatering food offerings, Aromas Cafe also boasts a charming ambiance that enhances the dining experience. With linen napkins, floor-to-ceiling windows, Hawaiian music, and contemporary decor, the atmosphere is as inviting as the food is delicious.

Whether you’re looking for a quick bite to eat or a leisurely meal with friends, Aromas Cafe is a great place to break out of the ho-hum, same-old lunch malaise. It’s a place to enjoy something new and different, and to support new, developing chefs as they develop their skills.

Aromas Cafe will be open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10-1 until April 25. On Wednesdays, they will only have the express window open, while you can dine in on Thursdays. You can always get a preview of their menu on their Facebook page. Plus, come celebrate Earth Day on April 18 from 11-3, where you can sample several options Aroma has created.
