Blue Zones Project is proud to announce that North Coast Opportunities has completed the process of becoming a Blue Zones Project Approved Worksite in Lake and Mendocino County. North Coast Opportunities (NCO) is a private non-profit community action agency focused on serving both Lake and Mendocino Counties, although they work in several other Nor-Cal counties as well.
Lake County is pleased to recognize Muscle Matrix Gym, owned by Nate and Lara Keyser, as a Blue Zones Project – Lake County-approved organization. Muscle Matrix gym in Hidden Valley Lake celebrated this prestigious designation with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 28.
The Lake County Library provides access to free online and in-person workshops to enrich the lives of the public. Starting in December, Lakeport Library’s Fabric Club will present four “mending” workshops on the first Saturday of the month. The workshops will cover subjects from hemming to buttons and holes. The public is invited to attend the first workshop on Saturday, December 2 at the Lakeport Library from 10 a.m. – noon.
The Lake County Library Bookmobile has arrived! Brandon Mach, Library Assistant and Bookmobile driver, is excited by the possibilities the Bookmobile’s arrival brings: “The Library’s valuable offerings go well beyond books. I’m thrilled that we can now extend resources and services to even more Lake County residents!” shared Mach.
California State University, Chico, is offering two scholarships to help people interested in attaining a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) and eventually practicing clinical social work in the medically underserved counties of Northern California, including Lake and Mendocino Counties. The MSW’s three-year “distributed” learning track allows students to take online evening classes with only two in-person weekend classes per semester.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) extends its gratitude to partners who embody our mission, which is dedicated to strengthening Lake County’s ability to withstand disasters. While OES serves as the lead emergency management agency for the County, achieving our mission would be unattainable without the proactive collaboration of both the public and private sectors, as well as the collective efforts of individuals and County employees.
In the spirit of community and holiday joy, the Rotary Club of Lakeport braved the elements to deck the halls of the iconic Library Park Gazebo this past Saturday morning. Undeterred by the rain, Rotary Club members and volunteers came together to create a festive atmosphere for the entire community.
The Lake County Women’s Civic Club (LCWCC) enjoyed a delicious turkey luncheon at Riviera Hills Restaurant in November. In addition to the great food, the ladies welcomed Ginny Craven, representing Tango Mike—an organization that collects donations for Lake County service members deployed overseas and mails care packages to them monthly. The club was delighted to make a $2,000 donation to support this worthwhile program. Ms. Craven mentioned that the group could especially use donations of packaged protein items, deodorant, and cash to help defer the expensive shipping charges incurred each month.
The Lake County Symphony will present its annual Fall Concert at 2 p.m., November 19, at Lakeport’s Soper Reese Theatre. Musical Director/Conductor John Parkinson leads the orchestra in colorful selections by some of the greatest composers in Western history.

On November 11, 2023, this Veterans Day weekend, Kelseyville Girl Scout Troop 10145 demonstrated their commitment to honoring and remembering Veterans with a series of impactful events. On Friday, the troop organized a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser to raise funds and awareness for Wreaths Across America, a nationwide initiative to honor fallen Veterans. The event took place at the Saw Shop Public House, generously donated by the establishment along with food and staff support.
October was a busy month for the Rotary Club of Kelseyville Sunrise, including hearing many interesting and informative speakers. Dan Balfe from the Santa Rosa Rotary Club shared information on his Club’s international project, Hands to Honduras Water Project. Mireya Turner, Director of the Lake County Community Development, gave an update on the Community Development Department in the County. Finally, Marie Schrader from the Lake County Theater Company joined our Friday morning meeting to talk about the Theater Company and their current production, “9 to 5 the Musical.”
Middletown Art Center (MAC) is hosting a Design Workshop with Pomo Culture Bearer and Artist, Eric Wilder, this Saturday, Nov 11th, from 1-5 pm. This free workshop is part of the Water Basket project’s education series and is designed to support Native people in bringing expressions of their innate cultural heritage into public space and non-Native people in learning more about Pomo cultural heritage. Water Basket honors the first people, their culture, and the rich legacy of Pomo basketry that is unique to this region and renowned worldwide.

To address a shortage of local healthcare workers, the Alliance for Rural Community Health (ARCH) is offering $2,000 scholarships to qualified applicants who enroll in medical assistant or dental assistant training programs through the Mendocino County Office of Education and agree to complete their externship at an ARCH-member health center in their community (Boonville, Fort Bragg, Gualala, Lakeport, Laytonville, Point Arena, Ukiah, or Willits).
The Eastlake Landfill will be closed on Saturday, November 11, 2023, and the Public Services Office will be closed on Friday, November 10, 2023, in observance of Veteran’s Day. The Eastlake Landfill and the Public Services office will re-open on Monday, November 13, 2023.
