Enforcement period: June 18 – July 17, 2026
As part of the City of Lakeport’s ongoing commitment to public safety and safe neighborhoods, the Lakeport Police Department and Lakeport Fire Protection District have released their Illegal Fireworks Operations Plan, covering the 30-day period surrounding the Fourth of July.
Key elements of the plan include:
- Targeted Hotspot Enforcement: Areas where illegal fireworks were a problem in 2024 have been mapped for focused enforcement this year.
- Increased Staffing: All Lakeport PD officers will be deployed during peak dates, July 1–5, with additional support from other local law enforcement agencies. The Lakeport Fire Protection District will also have extra personnel on standby for rapid response.
- Dedicated Enforcement Team: A specialized team will focus on locating and stopping illegal fireworks throughout the city.
- Community Outreach: A public awareness campaign begins in early June, educating residents on the dangers of illegal fireworks and promoting safe alternatives.
- Funding: Police overtime costs for this operation will be covered by the fireworks sale surcharge, not the General Fund.
This effort supports two City Council priorities: Public Safety and Safe & Attractive Neighborhoods.
The City urges residents to use only safe-and-sane fireworks and to report illegal fireworks activity to local authorities.

Everything you need to know about the possession and use of Fireworks in the City of Lakeport:
Fireworks that DO NOT have the Safe and Sane Label (see image) are illegal and will be PROSECUTED!
Only Safe and Sane Fireworks are allowed for possession and ignition, and only under the following conditions:
When:
July 1st through July 3rd, only ignited from 9 am to 10 pm
July 4th only ignited from 9 am to 11 pm
Where:
ARE permitted on any street in the incorporated city limits, but users or parent/guardian may still be civilly responsible for vehicle and/or property damage.
Not allowed in the Parklands (including the shoreline) of Library and Xabatin Parks (on July 4th, there will be a sectioned-off area in the small parking lot on 4th St., between the parklands and Main St., designated for the use of Safe and Sane Fireworks, as in years past)
Not within 10 feet of a residence, dwelling, or structure used as a place to live
Discharging fireworks on private property (like commercial shopping centers) is not permitted without explicit permission from the PROPERTY OWNER, not just a business owner on the property.
Need to Know:
We will have increased patrol coverage from July 1 to July 5, including CalFire Police Officers and US Forest Service Police Officers, and may utilize undercover personnel to specifically target illegal fireworks. For the 4th of July show specifically, we will be deploying numerous law enforcement officers from neighboring federal, state, and local agencies to support public safety efforts well into the early morning hours of July 5th.
