Every fall, I am reminded of one of the many reasons I love calling Northern California home. No, it’s not just the falling leaves, the bounty that effortlessly comes from a garden, or the temptation to bake seasonal favorites, to sip a warm drink after coffee, and to reclaim stored-away cozy blankets. As much as I look forward to all of these things, I enjoy one even more: Camping!
With the calmer temperatures and winter storms still distant, these few quiet months after summer’s rush give us leisure time to claim as our own. Sure, hiking, biking, fishing, and kayaking are still great activities. Let’s not forget camping, too. This time of year, tourists have returned to their respective homes, and happily, campgrounds are a little less crowded these days. Well, maybe not the State Park campgrounds, which always seem to be booked solid. So much for spontaneity there.
But for those of us who live in Lake County or love to visit and want to spend our leisure time on the northern part of the lake, Willow Point RV and Campground is a great choice, located next to Library Park in Lakeport.

Willow Point RV and Campground speaks to me for many reasons; it was where my family and I spent our first three nights when we moved to Lake County and began the adventure of looking for our first home here. It’s the spot I go to when the family wants to do the Drive-Ins, and despite the ungodly hour that they end, I know my bed is only two or three minutes away. It’s also the first spot that came to mind when I felt the water calling me to be near her for an extended summer staycation.
Willow Point RV and Campgrounds is conveniently located on the shores of Clear Lake in the heart of downtown Lakeport. Walk one block, and you will be on Main Street. From there, you have more shopping and restaurant choices than you need to fill a day. And if boating, kayaking, bird watching, or fishing is your thing, Library Park has more boat launches in one convenient location than anywhere else in the county.
And when summer returns, it’s an easy walk to Library Park’s Friday night live music concert series and all the annual festivities Lakport is known for. And come the 4th of July, you can enjoy a crowd-free view of the fireworks right from your own campsite.
This beloved campground has been the centerpiece of countless memories, including family reunions, fishing tournaments, communal BBQs under its gazebo, and quiet retreats in between it all. And despite its proximity to downtown, the peace and quiet it offers make it feel more like a park than a campground, with plenty of wildlife to observe morning, noon, and night.

And let’s not forget the practical reasons to stay at Willow Point RV and Campground, including full hookups for those of us who prefer RV camping over tent camping. Large grassy campsites, open spaces for leisurely games, and paths to scenic lookout points. And if tent camping is more your thing, Willow Point also offers showers and a bathroom for your convenience.
My friends, the best of summer still awaits; the choice is yours!
