DOING MY COLORS – POETRY BY BEULAH VEGA

 ‘Autumn’, they told me.
 Beige, chocolate, rust,
 Think dark and spicy-
 -In the blandest way possible.

But I am so much more than
 their narrow views of pigmentation.
 I am sangria and lapis
 crimson and shadow.
I am iron and emerald longing
for an azure sea under a cerulean sky.
I dream under my own lemon and rose sun
Of chartreuse and cobalt mermaids beckoning me home.

My ancestors with their skin of alabaster and
 bronzite both translucently blinding under
 The daffodil sun gifted me
 Their onyx, and clementine hair
And their obsidian/tiger’s eyes to look at the world with.
So I could see their lands of Fern, Shamrock,
 Juniper, and Sage as they
 run through my veins
 creating mulberry blood
 And a multi-hued view
 Of this vivid world.
