Lake County Music Guide – 4.30.24

Hola, mis amigos y amigas, it’s Cinco de Mayo this coming Sunday – one of my favorite traditional events. But from what I’ve been told, it’s not the most celebrated day in Mexico – nothing like Mexican Independence Day. And rather than simply being an excuse to drink beer, eat tapas and dance, in Mexico it’s an important celebration of a famous victory between the Mexican people of Pueblo and an invading French army. S’okay, I still like beer and tapas and dancing. Here’s the live music schedule for the week of 4/30 to 5/6…

The Kelsey Creek Brewing in K’ville on Tuesday starts off our week of live music events by presenting, along with a long list of fine handcrafted beers, ales and seltzers, the excellent acoustic music of Buskin’ for Brewskis from 3 to 6:00. It’s a casual gathering of friends, acquaintances and other good folks who enjoy a little music with their brews. On Sunday, it’s another event that’s soon to be a tradition, much like Cinco de Mayo, when Cowboy Johnson strums and sings his way into our collective hearts. He will be joined by Kraig Jillson, Mike Guarniero and maybe even Nancy Wright, Mojo Platz and David Broida. It’s like a celebration within a celebration, er… sorta…

For something really fun, the Clear Lake Grange on Big Valley Rd in Finley, where there’s always a live music event on the third Tuesday, but this final Tuesday of April they will host a special show featuring the hot new local band, Audio Soul from 6 to 9:30. Just a reminder, folks, as the flood gates begin to open and our warm weather schedule kicks in, if you are in a band, or own a business that provides live music, or are an ardent supporter of a particular band, please let me know about any and all of your gigs. It just makes my job so much easier, believe me. Contact me via personal message, (not directly to Lake County Music Guide, because that takes your message to Meta, which drives me up the wall). Let’s all enjoy a long, musical Summer together. And with that said, if and when you all go out this week to enjoy the bounty of live music the LC has to offer, have a fun time, but please be safe…

Mike Guarniero

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for 40+ years. He paid his dues in a robust Sonoma County music scene during the '80s and '90s, then DJ'd for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996. After retiring from his job of 26 years, because he recognized a growing local music scene, he decided to devote his time to playing live music again. He's never looked back. Along with his regular band, Dr. Groove, he has filled in on lead guitar for local bands, (Fargo Bros, Blues Farm, C.A.M. Band, Borrowed Time, Time Travelers). He's played acoustic guitar at a some of our local wineries, restaurants, farmers Markets and art galleries. He's also a semi-regular supporting various local Open Mics around Lake County. He writes and records original songs and has recorded original demos for other performers as well. For the last three years, he has posted on Facebook a local music guide called the Lake County Music Guide.
