Lake County Music Guide – 5.21.24

Boy, oh boy, it’s gonna be a wild and wooly week! Memorial Day weekend, Bottlerock Music Festival going on in Napa County, Cal Expo in Sacramento, and there’s gonna be a boatload of live music events happening here in The LC. I’ll start out with Memorial Day Events. On Saturday, the Lakeport Kiwanis Club and Community Center will have a pancake breakfast from 7:AM to 11:AM. Following breakfast, the City of Lakeport, the Ladies of the Lake, and Oscar Tango Mike will present a Memorial Day March down Main Street starting at 11 AM. Then, on Monday, the Middletown Cemetery and the Military Funeral Honors Team of Lake County, and the Patriot Guard Riders will honor the Fallen from 9: AM to 10 AM. So, without further ado, here’s the live music schedule for the week of 5/21 through 5/27…

The Kelsey Creek Brewing in K’ville will start off the week on Tuesday from 3 to 6:00 with the acoustic music of Buskin’ for Brewskis, which pairs perfectly with their fine handcrafted beers, ales and seltzers. Later in the week on Sunday it’s time again for the Cowboy Johnson Show with help from Kraig Jillson and me, Mike Guarniero, all from 2 to 6:00. Both are so much fun you don’t wanna miss them…

Over at the Clear Lake Grange Hall on Big Valley Rd in Finley on Tuesday from 6:30 to 9:30, it’s gonna be an E-Ticket Ride when Wendy DeWitt, Kirk Harwood, Pierre Archain, Nancy Wright, Dave Broida and Larry “Mojo” Platz shows you what “boogie ‘til you drop” really means. As always, it’s a pot-luck event, so, if you want, try to bring something to share, even BYOBevs. Otherwise, a $10 donation will be accepted at the door. Way too much fun…

On Wednesday over at the Moose Lodge in Clearlake Oaks, it’s another Wimpy Burger Wednesday where this time Country Rocker Johnny Young will be laying down the tunes from 5:30 to 7:00. Pretty good burger, pretty good music, full bar. Well worth the drive to CLO…

Andre’s Lounge in Lakeport will feature on Wednesday the original and other compositions of pianist Nicky Hind from 7 to 9:00. (BTW, great write-up on Mr. Hind in the most recent issue of Backstage Magazine, a local publication highlighting Lake County musicians.). Then on Friday evening, Andre & Friends will keep you enthralled with tunes from 8 to 11:00.

Back to the Center of the Universe, the Saw Shop Public House in Kelseyville, with a great menu and a full bar, will have music out in the Backyard on Thursday from Stevie & the Shufflenuts from 6 to 9:00. Then, on Friday evening, The Hip Replacements will take the stage from 6 to 9:00. Rounding out the weekend will be Cowboy Johnson on Saturday evening from 6 to 9:00. No reservations are necessary in the Backyard…

The Middletown Farmers Market is the place to go to stock up on fresh, locally grown fruit and vegetables from 4:30 to 8:30. You’ll also find vendors selling wonderful handcrafted items you just can’t live without. There will also be food vendors keeping you fed, and as if that ain’t enough, you’ll get live music with a certain New Orleans flair from Andy Rossoff.

At the Smiling Dogs Tasting Room in Kelseyville on Friday, you’ll find Dave Broida and Blues Farm teaming up with guest harmonica maestro RJ Mischo from 6:30 to 9:30. Award-winning wines will be available by the bottle or glass.

The Boathouse Bar/Stowaway Grill in that nice little town of Nice is happy to bring back, by popular demand, the amazing Soul Circus on Friday evening from 7 to 10:00. Later on Sunday, be prepared to dance when Howard Reggie Dockins rocks the house from 3 to 7:00. With great food and a full bar, both shows should be an easy choice…

Richmond Park Bar ‘n’ Grill out in the bayside Riviera will be rockin’ it this weekend, starting with Friday when Howard Reggie Dockins compels you to dance from 7 to 11:00. Then on Saturday afternoon, it’s time for Beatz Werkin’ to get your feet movin’ from 2 to 6:00. On both Sunday and Monday afternoons, let’s welcome back Lake County’s favorite traveling minstrel, Tommy Rox from 1 to 5:00. And when T-Rox rocks the joint, it’s a thing of beauty…

Out in Lakeport at On The Waterfront, local vocalist supreme Anthony Neves, (his friends call him Tony), will croon while you spoon on Friday evening from 5 to 9:00. A mouthwatering menu awaits – yum!…

The Soper-Reese Theater in Lakeport will host Lake County Lip Sync – Music That Moves, a fun, laugh a minute event involving performers lip-syncing to popular songs. Times are 7:00 both Friday and Saturday, 2:00 on Sunday, and cost is $25. Thank you for supporting the Soper-Reese…

While you’re out barhopping on Friday, why not drop on by the Skylark Shores Resort in Lakeport and enjoy a Fire Dance Performance from 9 to 10:00.

In Middletown at the Twin Pine Casino, where the hotel, great food from the Manzanita Restaurant and a full bar make it the perfect place to go to see the band, Drive on both Friday and Saturday from 9 to 1:AM. Winner!

On Saturday morning at the Farmer’s Finest Farmers Market at the Shannon Ridge Mercantile Tasting Room in Finley from 10:AM to 1:PM, you’ll find fresh, locally grown fruit and vegetables, excellent hand-crafted items, food vendors, and since the tasting room Opens at 11:00, you can stock up on wines. There will also be live music, although I’m not sure who. Maybe Phil ‘n’ the Blanks? Either way, it’s the perfect one-stop-shop for all…

Later on Saturday afternoon, the same Mercantile will feature the music of Tom Drinnon from 4 to 7:00. Excellent wines are available by the bottle or the glass…

It’s time for the first Reggae Concert at Konocti Vista Casino, this one featuring Kabaka Pyramid plus Dubcraft, Ilaya and The 7th Street Band starting at 5:00. It’s outside, so bring a chair and maybe a hat – snacks and bevs will be sold at the event. Who doesn’t love Reggae?

The Riviera Hills Lounge in the Riviera will feature the good timey music of the Mark Weston Band on Saturday from 6 to 10:00. Catch a spectacular sunset, enjoy a meal and some libations, then rock out to the MWB.

Huttopia Wine Country Campgrounds at Six Sigma Ranch & Winery in the Lower Lake area on Saturday from 6 to 8:00 will feature Still Kick’n from 6 to 8:00.

Take a step up to the mountain to the Loch Lomond Roadhouse on Saturday, where you will witness a show featuring Sugarcane Jane, led by Anthony Crawford and Savana Lee from Loxley, Alabama. Anthony has played with the likes of Neil Young, Dwight Yoakam, Steve Winwood, even the Grand Ol’ Opry. Also on the bill will be the fantastic Lolly Lee, along with her own bona fides, plus openers – the Prather-Hood Band. I opened up for Sugarcane Jane a few years back and they are quite good. The show starts at 6:00, but why not get there earlier and have a meal and/or something from a full bar.

And let’s welcome back the Konocti Harbor Resort in the Buckingham area with a show featuring the Funky Dozen from 8 to 11:00. Cost will be $10 but call the KHR for more info. On Sunday come back again and rock out to The Hots starting at 8:00 and also $10.

Running Creek Casino in Upper Lake is happy to begin its warm weather season of outdoor music with the fan faves, the LC Diamonds on Sunday from 5 to 9:00.

And wrapping up the LC music is the Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake where on Friday you can reminisce Bossa Nova, Jazz and other older songs with the Majide Trio from 6 to 8:00. Then on Saturday, come and enjoy a meal and something from a full bar while Chris Forshay makes it all that much more worthwhile, from 6 to 8:00. If breakfast is on your mind, the Sunday Brunch offers a great menu plus the music from Good Measure Quartet from 11:30 to 2:00. Later that evening from 6 to 8:00 come enjoy the beautiful music from the lovely Hilarie Wilt. For their Monday music, (normally a Blues Night), the LC Diamonds will make your meal that much better. Then wrapping up the BW schedule will be Paul Kemp playing piano while you enjoy your 2-Course $25 Supper Special, or anything else on the menu from 6 to 8:00. Reservations are suggested for all shows.

Mendocino County

On Friday, the Hopland Tap will feature the music of Pete Sawyer & the Left-Handed Monkey Wrench Gang starting at 7:00.

The Shanachie Pub in Willits will present on Friday the Cosmic Family Band starting at 8:00. Then on Saturday they will feature the Saturday Scramble starting at 3:00.

Coyote Valley Casino in Redwood Valley on Saturday will feature a Journey tribute, Journey’s Edge at 8:00.

And lastly, Hopper’s Corner in Potter Valley will feature on Sunday the music of the Mark Weston Band from 6 to 10:00.

Karaoke Korner

Loch Lomond Roadhouse on Wednesday starting at 6:00.

Twin Pine Casino on Thursday from 7 to 10:00.

Robinson Rancheria Casino is open on Thursday from 9 to midnight.

Well, technically this weekend marks the start of Summer. Weather gets more consistently hot, and the clothes get consistently skimpier – shorts and tees, folks. I love it! So however you decide to celebrate the Memorial weekend, have fun, but please be safe. Peace-Out, Amigos!

Mike Guarniero

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for 40+ years. He paid his dues in a robust Sonoma County music scene during the '80s and '90s, then DJ'd for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996. After retiring from his job of 26 years, because he recognized a growing local music scene, he decided to devote his time to playing live music again. He's never looked back. Along with his regular band, Dr. Groove, he has filled in on lead guitar for local bands, (Fargo Bros, Blues Farm, C.A.M. Band, Borrowed Time, Time Travelers). He's played acoustic guitar at a some of our local wineries, restaurants, farmers Markets and art galleries. He's also a semi-regular supporting various local Open Mics around Lake County. He writes and records original songs and has recorded original demos for other performers as well. For the last three years, he has posted on Facebook a local music guide called the Lake County Music Guide.
