Lake County Music Guide – 6.4.24

I’m getting old and I don’t read so right. Can somebody enlighten me about the “Parade of Planets”? Did it happen this morning or is it tomorrow morning? In case you haven’t been told, Jupiter, Mercury, Uranus, Mars, Neptune, and Saturn will all appear to be aligned with each other just before sunrise. It’s kinda cool stuff if you’re into that sort of thing. It’s awfully nice of the planets to be so orderly. Anyways, the live music in Lake County should be just as stellar this week, and so, without further ado here’s the live music schedule for the week of 6/4 through 6/10…

Since the first day of the week is now Tuesday, everybody’ favorite suds shop, the Kelsey Creek Brewing in K’ville will be able to cool you down with a menu of excellent handcrafted beers, ales and seltzers – all with funny names. And you get to stay cool with cool tunes from Buskin’ for Brewskis – all from 3 to 6:00. Then later this week on Sunday, since Cowboy Johnson’s gonna be out of town, it’ll be yours truly, Mike Guarniero with a little help from Kraig Jillson bringin’ you some tunes to go with those brews from 2 to 5:00. Man, I’m thirsty already…

At the Hopland Tap ‘n’ Grill it’s gonna be a wacky Wendy Wednesday where from 4 to 6 Boogie Woogie specialist Wendy Dewitt will be her own opening act. Then from 7 to 10:00, she’ll be joined by Kirk, Pierre, Dave and John with the Invitational Blues Jam that has been such a huge hit for the last few years. And they often bring in a brand name Bay Area Blues performer to round out the bill. With good food and a full bar, this should be everybody’s Wednesday evening destination.

Rockin’ good stuff, Maynard…In Lower Lake at Maynards Bar, there will be an Open Mic hosted by Chris Grant. Chris is fast becoming the king of Open Mics here in the East County of Lake, and this one will be pretty fun. Full bar, okay to bring in food. All performers are welcome, so at 6:00, show us your talent!…

It’s time for this year’s first Humpday Howler at the Smiling Dogs Ranch in Kelseyville, and they’re starting things out with a bang, featuring on Wednesday the outstanding band Soul Circus from 5:30 to 9:30. Bring a chair, hat, maybe some food to share. SDR wines will be sold by the bottle or the glass and a $15 cover for the band. Mama Dee’s Philly Cheese Truck will offer tasty treats. It’s pool party casual, so come comfy and be ready to dance…

Andre’s Lounge, if you’re in Lakeport, is the perfect place to stop in on just about any night of the week, but especially on Wednesday when pianist and composer Nicky Hind shows you his stuff from 7 to 9:00. And if “Dad Rock” is what you have in mind, Bill Vanderwall will bring it and more on Saturday night from 8 to 11:00. Woowee, Baby!…

Back to the center of the universe, the Saw Shop Public House in Kelseyville, offers fine dining, a full bar, and in its adjunct “Backyard”, there will be live music on Thursday from “Tones” Anthony Neves, (his friends call him Tony…), from 6 to 9:00. The Lakeport Concert Series at Library Park in Lakeport is back in action on Friday evening, this week featuring the genre-defying 21st-century talent with a lot on her mind, singer/songwriter Michelle Lambert. This multi-instrumentalist performs Pop with California roots. As always, the music starts at 6:30, but it’s a good idea to get there early to secure the best location to enjoy the concert. Hats, blankets and low back chairs are recommended, bring snacks and bevs, but food vendors will be on hand just in case. This is such a fun event!…

Weston Seifert, owner of the Saw Shop Public House, and I are excited about collaborating again on a new Baconfest composition. As many of you may remember, last year we did a song to the tune of “It’s Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas,” but with a totally wacky bacon theme. This year, Weston’s outdone himself with the project and it’s gonna be as much a crack-up as last year. But I’m leaving the tune selection a secret for now. Hey, it’s gonna get hot this week, so stay hydrated, wear a hat, some sunscreen – whatever it takes to enjoy a hot week. So, if and when you go out this weekend, have fun, but please be safe…

Mike Guarniero

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for 40+ years. He paid his dues in a robust Sonoma County music scene during the '80s and '90s, then DJ'd for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996. After retiring from his job of 26 years, because he recognized a growing local music scene, he decided to devote his time to playing live music again. He's never looked back. Along with his regular band, Dr. Groove, he has filled in on lead guitar for local bands, (Fargo Bros, Blues Farm, C.A.M. Band, Borrowed Time, Time Travelers). He's played acoustic guitar at a some of our local wineries, restaurants, farmers Markets and art galleries. He's also a semi-regular supporting various local Open Mics around Lake County. He writes and records original songs and has recorded original demos for other performers as well. For the last three years, he has posted on Facebook a local music guide called the Lake County Music Guide.
