Lake County Music Guide – 7.9.24

Nobody likes to cancel a gig because of the weather, but especially if it’s too hot. Last week, there were a handful of venues that canceled their live music events, and with temps pushing 110°, it should’ve been a no-brainer. I played last Thursday and suffered a slight heat stroke during the first set, and I haven’t been right since. One should never mess with extreme heat. This weekend may bring us much of the same, although forecasts show it is dropping down to the low 90s on Saturday and for several days thereafter. Unfortunately, I have been reminded that the Humpday Howler at the Smiling Dogs Ranch has been “postponed” to a later date, and who knows what else will also be. But bear with it – the below-the-century mark events are just around the corner. Here’s what’s happening during this week in Lake County…

The Kelsey Creek Brewing in K’ville has two cool constants this next week. 1st would be Tuesday when cold handcrafted beers, ales and seltzers are served with some cool music from Buskin’ for Brewskis in the chill swamp cooled atmosphere from 3 to 6:00. Then on Sunday it’s more of the same, but with Cowboy Johnson and Friends, from 2 to 5-ish. Stay frosty my friend…

On Wednesday at the popular Hopland Tap ‘n’ Grill you can catch the Boogie Woogie piano magic of Wendy DeWitt from 4 to 6:00. Then, same day from 7 to 10:00, there’s gonna be another Invitational Blues Jam where Wendy is joined by her cohorts, Kirk, Pierre, Dave and John, and on some occasions they bring on a brand name Bay Area Blues artist to add the final seasoning to this Blues stew. Food, drink, Boogie Woogie and Blues? Too cool for school, dood!… Later that week on Saturday, come check out Pete Sawyer and the Left Handed Monkey Wrench Gang as they do their thing starting at 7:00…

Up in Clearlake Oaks at the Moose Lodge, it’s gonna be another Wimpy Burger Wednesday where live music will be provided by singer extraordinaire Anthony Neves, (his friends call him Tony), from 5:30 to 7:00. These are really really big burgers, and they have a full bar, and it’s open to Moosies and non-Moosies alike, so come on up…

Over in Lakeport, Andre’s Lounge offers a selection of brews and wines, plus on Wednesday evening, you can hear the piano compositions of Nicky Hinds from 7 to 9:00. Later, on Friday, come groove to the smooth sounds of Andre & Friends from 8 to 11:00. Then on Saturday come get a taste of “Dad Rock” from Bill Vanderwall from 8 to 11:00.

Fults Family Winery in Lower Lake will present another Thirsty Thursday Concert, this time featuring AudioSoul from 7 to 10:00. The later hour, (it’s usually 6 to 9), means a cooler show – and the temps should drop some. They always have local brews and some of their best wines available, the tables all have umbrellas and the whole scene is uber coo-ellll!…

At the On the Waterfront Restaurant in Lakeport across from Library Park, playing on Thursday will be the Weston/Hood Rhythm Review from 6 to 9:00, (possibly inside in the air conditioned comfort). This place is a real gem, with great food, select beers and wine, and a clean, comfortable atmosphere – and the acoustic guitar music of WHRR is pretty good – so you should stop by. Also, on Saturday come get in on some of the 1,4,5 magic of Dave Broida and Blues Farm from 6 to 9:00. Either show is a win-win!…

Back to the center of the universe, Kelseyville, the Saw Shop Public House always has a great menu, a full bar, and live music every weekend. This Thursday, come check out Margo and Friends from 6 to 9:00. Then on Friday evening Dave Broida and Blues Farm will roll out the 12 bars like nobody else from 6 to 9:00. And if you’re ready to rock, on Saturday the band Still Kick’n will give you all the Rock you can handle from 6 to 9:00. Say hi to Weston while you’re there…

The Catfish Coffee House in Clearlake and Chris Grant will host an Open Mic, open to all performers on Thursday evening starting at 7:00. There’s some pretty good talent in Clearlake. They’ll have coffee drinks and snacks on hand…

Down in the bayside Riviera at Richmond Park Bar ‘n’ Grill, they’ll have more music than you can shake a stick at, starting with Thursday evening starting at 7:00 when Country and Blues player, James White takes the stage. Then, on Friday evening, one of my faves, Fog Revisited, will rock your world from 7 to 11:00. If you really wanna dance, Howard Reggie Dockins will bring it all on from 7 to 11:00 on Saturday night. And wrapping up the weekend, rockin Country star Johnny Young will get the boots scootin’ on Sunday starting at 1:00. Come by boat if you’re out on the lake, have a meal and a bev or two, then enjoy all this music!…

The Middletown Farmers Market will bring you on Friday fresh locally grown fruit and vegetables, plus an assortment of handcrafted items you just can’t live without, plus the live music of Andy Rossoff – all from 4:30 to 8:30.

The Lakeport Concert Summer Concert Series will bring you Fargo Friday when everybody’s favorite, the Fargo Bros rock the gazebo from 6:30 to 8:30. Bring a chair, a blanket, a hat, a picnic and get ready to watch the masters at work. Too much fun…

On Saturday morning, the Farmer’s Finest Farmers Market at the Mercantile in Finley will bring you fresh locally grown fruit and vegetables, plus an assortment of handcrafted items you just can’t live without. Plus, the tasting room opens at 11:00, so you can stock up on all your favorite Shannon Ridge Wines all the while enjoying the music of Dennis Purcell – all from 10:AM to 1:00. It’s like a one-stop-shop. Then on Tuesday the FFFM moves over to Library Park in Lakeport, and is also from 10:AM to 1:00, featuring much of the same but also live music…

Konocti Vista Casino in Lakeport will hold their 30th Annual Carnival Fun Fair event on Saturday from 1 to 11:00. There will be rides, food and drink, and yes, live music. Call to see who it is…

Later on Saturday afternoon at the Mercantile in Finley, come for the wine, come for the food, but be sure to come for the music of the Mark Weston Band from 4 to 7:00.

The Clearlake Summer Concert Series is happy to bring you the Boys of Summer, an Eagles Tribute Band, on Saturday starting at 6:00. The Show is free and happens at Austin Park. Expect there to be vendors, but feel free to bring a picnic, a hat, a chair or blanket, then enjoy the boys…

The Konocti Harbor Resort in the Buckingham/Riviera will present on Saturday evening a taste of “The Mac” as tribute band Fleetwood Mask rocks the resort at 8:00. Cost is $25 and doors open at 7:00. Come from the east, south, north or the west – but when it’s over, you can go your own way…

The Soper-Reese Theater in Lakeport will feature on Saturday starting at 7:00 the music of Bandjango Collectif as they celebrate “Bastille Day”, the national holiday of France. I promise you won’t completely lose your head over this event, but you’ll have a great time. Cost is $25 -35. Thank you for supporting the SRT…

Take a step up to the mountain when on Saturday evening starting around 7:00 you can rock out to Beatz Werkin’ at the Loch Lomand Roadhouse. Get there early, enjoy a meal, some bevs from a full bar, then dance to the music – mountain style…

On Sunday afternoon in that nice little town of Nice the Fargo Bros will be rockin’ the patio at the Boathouse Bar/Stowaway Grill from 3 to 7:00. Great food, good views and a full bar. I know, I had you at Fargo…

And just a reminder – next week the outstanding Soul Circus will be laying down the groove at the Clear Lake Grange Hall on Big Valley Rd in Finley on Tuesday the 16th. You gotta see this band – you’ll love ‘em…

And saving the best for last, the Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake will bring you 6 live music events in 5 days, starting with Friday when the Majide Trio enchants you from 6 to 8:00 with music from an older era. On Saturday evening from 6 to 8:00 come enjoy the piano music of Paul Kemp. This will happen right after the wedding party held earlier that afternoon. Jonesin’ for breakfast, the Blue Wing will host a Sunday Brunch from 11:30 to 2:00 with the music of the Lincoln Andrews Trio. Later that evening balladeer Chris Forshay will make it a Sunday Supper to remember, from 6 to 8:00. The outstanding Loralee Christensen will rock your Monday Night Blues from 6 to 8:00. Then wrapping up the week, Paul Kemp will play piano for the 2-Course $25 Supper meal, also from 6 to 8:00.

I sure hope I got everything. I want to give a big shout-out to those who have made my job easier by PMing me with their schedules. It cuts at least 2 hours from my work time. You all rock! So if and when you go out this week to enjoy the bounty of live music Lake County has to offer, have fun – but please hydrate, wear head cover, and most of all, be safe…
