Lake County Music Guide – 9.30.23

Normally I’m annoyed when both the bands and venues neglect to post their upcoming shows and I have to search the world over to get that info. But this week it’s different because of what’s going on in The LC – The Lake County Fair and The Blue Wing Saloon’s Blues Festival! Pretty much sez it all… I’ll list the Blue Wing events with the BWS listings, the LCF I have already been posted separately. And over the weekend, these events will overlap to bring you one of the best weekends of music you’ll hear all year.

I’m playing Saturday at the gazebo in the LC County Fair with Randy Hood and I’m going to the Monday night BWSBF show. Too much fun, folks! So, here’s the live music schedule for the week of 8/28 through 9/7…

It’s always a fun time at the Kelsey Creek Brewing in K’ville, whether you’re enjoying one of their fine handcrafted beers, ales or seltzers, or simply taking advantage of the live music presented at the brewery. On Thursday, the Johnny Burgin Band rolls into town layin’ down some excellent Blues from 4 to 7:00. Brews to Blues – HOT DANG!

On Wednesday, the Hopland Tap ‘n’ Grill will host the Blues Invitational Jam from 7 to 10. Jam pros Wendy, Kirk, Pierre, John and Dave have a fun thing going every Wednesday, and this one will be no different. But sometimes they invite a brand name Bay Area Blues player to give it that certain je es sais quoi that makes the whole thang that much bettah. Take it from the top, Boys…

There’s gonna be some spectacular music at the Saw Shop Public House in Kelseyville on Thursday when acoustic guitar savants Austin and Owens take the stage from 6 to 9:00. Cool beans! Then on Friday evening Johnny Tsunami and the Hurricanes will show you how the Blues really should be played from 6 to 9:00. Totally, Dude! Then on Sunday morning, while you munch a bunch of brunch come enjoy the harmony magic of Note Worthy from 11 to 1:30. Did someone say “mimosas”?…

Then on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday afternoons, come celebrate Labor Day weekend with Tommy Rox from 1 to 5:00 each day. T-Rox always makes you a part of the party, don’t be shy…

If it’s Friday night, it’s Still Kick’n over at The Barn in Clearlake Oaks from 8 to midnight rockin’ up the joint. These guys have been playin’ all over the county these days. Maybe it’s time you go check ‘em out!

Also, later at the Mercantile on Saturday afternoon, the LC Diamonds will be playing from 4 to 7:00. Rosie Cooks Catering and La Chilanguita Restaurant will provide the vittles. Plus, fine Shannon Ridge Wines will be sold by the glass or the bottle.

On Saturday afternoon at Wine in the Willows in Lakeport, come for the local art, the local wines, the local beers, but especially come for the local music when Cowboy Johnson says howdy-doo and sings you a few songs from 5 to 8:00. This guy is truly a Lake County treasure…

If you take a step up to the mountain, you’ll find at the Loch Lomand Resort at the Roadhouse the fun dancin’ Blues from Dave Broida and Blues Farm. Expect Johnny Tsunami to accompany Dave and the band from 6 to 9:00. Great BBQ, just sayin’…

The Riviera Hills Lounge in the Riviera will bring you the rockin’ good stuff of Still Kick’n on Saturday evening from 6 to 10:00. Great views, good food, full bar and THE RAWK! ‘Nuff said… Then on Sunday evening, the 1st Sunday Open Jam puts another one in the books from 5 to 9:00. This event has been going on since 2016 and always brings in folks from all over the county and musicians from all over Nor Cal. Whoowee!

At the Clearlake VFW, local Country favorite Johnny Young will get the boots scootin’ on Sunday starting at 4:00. Don’t miss it, folks…

And now for the Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake, where the 16thBlue Wing Saloon Blues Festival takes place this weekend, expect on Friday evening the Majide Trio where Machiko, Paul and Pierre welcome sax master Nancy Wright as they run through their repertoire of songs of yesteryear from 6 to 8:00. The BWS’s Sunday Brunch will bring you the Flute Forward Duo from 11:30 to 2:00. And don’t forget the 2-Course Tuesday where pianist and famous musician Paul Kemp entertains while you dine from 6 to 8:00…

Then it’s the BLue Wing Saloon’s Blues Festival starting on Saturday evening when Mighty Mike Schermer and Nancy Wright play separately, then together from 6 to 9:00. This should be a wild show – I’ve seen them both and they’re very good!

On Sunday evening guitar great Jules Leyhe and his Family Jules Band opens for The Delgato Bros, also from 6 to 9:00. This should be a fantastic show. Lovers of excellent guitar playing should make this a must see…

On Monday evening AJ Crawdaddy opens up for the Daniel Castro Band from 6 to 9:00. I’ve seen Daniel Castro twice at past BWSBFs and I’m going again Monday. This will be a Blues Deluxe performance, I guarantee it!

Tix for some of these shows might still be available, so call the Blue Wing, (I bought mine last night…). That’s it for the 2023 Blues Festival.

According to the forecast, the weather should take a serious dip this weekend, so be sure to dress for it. It’s still gonna be a fun time, what with all the music, the LC Fair and The Blues Festival. I can’t wait for the weekend… So, if and when you go out this week to enjoy the bounty of live music The LC has to offer, have fun, but please be safe…
