Created in 2023 by the Lake County Library Family Literacy Program, the locally celebrated monthly StoryWalk event continues for the third year. In partnership with the Lake County Literacy Coalition and Clear Lake State Park, StoryWalk takes place on the second Saturday of every month from 11 am to 2 pm at the Clear Lake State, 5300 Soda Bay Road in Kelseyville. Entry and parking are free for StoryWalk attendees.

The monthly StoryWalk event features a newly selected book that staff set up along a nature trail so families can read while walking. StoryWalk provides children and families with a fun, hands-on way to enjoy reading outdoors while strengthening literacy skills and fostering a lifelong love of books.

After enjoying the outdoor StoryWalk, families may visit the State Park Visitor Center, enjoy a craft activity with State Park staff or a literacy craft with Literacy Coalition volunteers, and take a free book courtesy of local donors.

Recently added is the Lake County Library’s Bookmobile, complementing the monthly event by bringing library services directly to the State Park. Library staff help participants sign up for free library cards and check out books featured on the StoryWalk so they can keep reading at home. The Bookmobile also provides free public Wi-Fi, Chromebooks, and hotspots, expanding access to learning and information across the county.

All Lake County residents are welcome to attend the monthly StoryWalk and are encouraged to bring family members of all ages. Adults with children who are interested in enrolling in the Adult Literacy Program for reading and writing support are especially encouraged to attend StoryWalk to learn more about the library’s free tutoring program.

Enrolled adult learners with young children can also access the Family Literacy Program, which promotes literacy and lifelong learning for all ages. In this program, children receive free books to build home libraries, and parents receive a monthly newsletter that includes reading recommendations, family activities, and more.
