Middletown Art Center (MAC) invites the public to the opening reception of its new exhibition, INQUIRY, this Saturday, June 13, from 6 to 8 pm. The display features new and returning artists’ work in a variety of media. The event is free and open to the public.
The exhibition highlights the artistic process of curiosity, investigation, experimentation, and discovery as a path to personal expression, growth, and meaning. Among the compelling works on view, several artists’ works reflect years of inquiry into a single subject or theme, including Karen Turcotte’s Gateway Language and Echoes of Language, and Lisa Kaplan’s self-portraits exploring fire—both as internal energy and through the lived experience of the Valley Fire and other fires in our region.
Other examples in this exhibit highlight healing from injury or illness, with Monte Brill’s kinetic piece Paingle about his hospital and home recovery experience, or Mariella de la Paz’s journey through cancer. Darren Jekel explores a contemporary female dancer’s movement in relation to Matisse’s La Danse, while Jaymie De La Torre explores identity through ceramic sculptures of the female form.
INQUIRY will be on view from June 13 to August 3, Thursday through Monday, 10:30 am to 5:00 pm, or by appointment, and is free to the public. A virtual tour will be available on MAC’s website in the coming weeks.
The MAC is located at 21456 State Hwy 175 at the junction of Hwy 29 in Middletown.
