Northern Rural Energy Network (NREN), a program of the Lake Area Planning Council (LAPC), is administered in Lake County in direct response to the unique issues and urgent needs of underrepresented rural California energy customers. NREN is part of a statewide initiative of regional energy networks (RENs) focused on helping communities address rising utility costs by adopting energy efficiency programs targeted at rural customers.
NREN is teaming up with TECH Clean California, a statewide initiative to accelerate the adoption of clean space and water heating technology, for a free heat pump contractor training. All contractor participants will receive a $200 stipend paid directly to their employer, plus morning coffee, pastries, and lunch. Students and apprentices are welcome to attend but are not eligible for the stipend.
The training will be held on Wednesday, September 30th from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm at Mendocino College Lake Center located at 2565 Parallel Dr. in Lakeport. Immediately following, a networking reception will be held from 3:00 pm-4:00 pm with contractors and local building trades students. Refreshments will be served.
The training session will focus on installing heat pump HVAC and heat pump water heaters, including proven strategies to help local contractors install more heat pumps, increase profit margins, and grow local market share.

“Heat pump technologies are fast becoming the go-to for high-efficiency all-in-one heating and cooling solutions. Heat pumps provide highly efficient heating, cooling, and water heating by transferring heat using electricity rather than generating it via combustion of fossil fuels,” said Jennifer Brennan, Energy Program Manager with LAPC and NREN. “We are so pleased that Lake County contractors and plumbers are already installing these units, which typically cost less to operate than traditional systems, and we welcome those that are not to attend our training to find out more.”
Developed by rural agencies and organizations for rural communities, NREN delivers innovative approaches to reduce energy use and expand the adoption of energy-saving resources across Northern California’s vast rural regions.
