1. Why did you decide to start your own business?

I started my own business, Chase My Hair Salon, because I saw a big gap in our local market for a high-end salon experience. As a stylist, I struggled to find a place that met my high standards and gave the level of service I wanted. So, I thought, why not create it myself? That way, I could bring my vision to life and offer amazing services to clients who’ve had the same frustrations. Now, I get to run a salon that not only meets my expectations but also makes our clients feel super valued and pampered. Plus, it’s just fun creating a welcoming space where everyone leaves feeling amazing!

2. How do you deal with fear and doubt?

I handle fear and doubt by overthinking everything about my business decisions. Seriously, I plan meticulously, anticipating challenges and coming up with ways to tackle them. By making sure my decisions are logical and well-founded, I feel more secure and confident in my actions. This rational approach helps to diminish fear, as I can foresee future hiccups and prepare for them effectively. Plus, having a clear plan and being aware of potential issues assures me that I can handle obstacles as they arise, reducing anxiety and keeping me proactive.

3. How does your business look different now vs. when you first started?

When I first started, I was working alone, providing basic hair services with limited resources. It was a one-person operation where I handled everything. As the demand for quality services grew, I realized the need to expand and diversify our offerings. I was also working in Santa Rosa, and while I do still hold a day for my loyal clients in Santa Rosa, I am slowly transitioning to my new salon.

Now, I run a full-fledged salon with a range of beauty services. We offer nail care, esthetician services, extensions, and within the next year, massage therapy and high-end scalp treatments. This diversification has allowed us to meet the varied needs of our clients and attract a broader clientele.

Our team has grown from just myself to a group of talented professionals. We have a marketing manager and business development coach, who play a crucial role in our outreach efforts, an “Extension Queen” who offers extensions, hairstyling and waxing with experience spanning over the last ten years. Our newest licensed cosmetologists bring six, eight and over ten years of experience in styling, lashes and more! Our nail technician has worked in the community for over a decade.

As the salon owner, I bring fifteen years of styling experience to the table and love using vivid colors.

Additionally, our online presence is growing significantly. We have a user-friendly website and active social media profiles on platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, which allow us to reach a broader audience and streamline appointment bookings. Our digital strategy has made it easier for clients to discover our services, book appointments, and engage with our brand.

4. How do you set your business apart from others in your industry?

I set my business apart by creating a salon experience that’s truly top-notch and super welcoming. We mix exceptional service with high-quality products, all wrapped up in a friendly, laid-back atmosphere. Our team is always on the ball with the latest trends and techniques because we’re all about continuous education. This means our clients get the trendiest, most up-to-date services around.

I also make sure to give personalized attention to each client, really taking the time to get to know their unique needs and preferences. Plus, I offer a range of services, from specialized treatments to event hosting. This makes us a one-stop beauty destination that can cater to just about any need in our community. We’re all about making you look and feel amazing, while having a good time doing it!

5. What is the hardest part of being an entrepreneur?

Running a business is a wild ride, especially when you’re trying to keep up with family life, too! Balancing all the responsibilities—like keeping clients happy, handling finances, and coming up with new ideas to grow—takes a lot of energy. It can feel like a lot, especially when big decisions are on the line.

Then there’s family time. Making sure I’m present for my kids, attending their activities, and being there for their needs is super important to me. Balancing work and family often means working late nights or weekends to get everything done, which can be tough but totally worth it for those special family moments.

Dealing with the unexpected—like economic ups and downs or other surprises—requires a lot of flexibility. It can be a bit draining to always have to pivot and find solutions, but it’s all part of the journey. Sometimes the stress can pile up, but I’ve found ways to manage.

Setting clear boundaries between work and family time, delegating tasks, and having a supportive team are key. Plus, prioritizing self-care ensures I have the energy and mental clarity to juggle it all.

Even though being an entrepreneur is demanding, balancing work and family life is essential for long-term success and personal well-being. With a solid support system at work and home and fine-tuned time management, I aim to be both a successful entrepreneur and a dedicated parent.

6. What is your favorite part of being an entrepreneur?

My favorite thing about being an entrepreneur is getting to make my ideas a reality and see how they positively affect my clients’ lives. It’s seriously rewarding seeing the smiles on their faces after they’ve experienced our services, whether it’s in our salon or at a special event we’re catering to. Plus, owning my own business gives me the freedom to get super creative, try out new ideas, and keep making our offerings even better.

One of the things that make our business unique is our flexibility. We not only offer services in our salon but also provide mobile options for clients who prefer to get pampered in the comfort of their own space. Whether it’s for a bridal party, corporate event, or just a fun girls’ night in, we bring the salon experience right to our clients’ doorstep or open our doors to host in the salon. It’s all about making beauty and wellness accessible and convenient for everyone.

7. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

If I could jet off to anywhere in the world, Ireland would be my top pick, no question! I mean, have you seen those lush green landscapes and those quaint cobblestone streets? It’s like stepping into a fairytale! I’ve always been a sucker for history, and Ireland’s got it in spades. From ancient castles to charming villages, there’s so much to explore and learn about. Plus, there’s something about Ireland’s cultural heritage that just speaks to me. It’s like every stone has a story to tell, you know?

So yeah, Ireland’s definitely calling my name. It’s the perfect blend of history, nature, and charm—a dream destination that’s sure to leave me feeling inspired and connected to the past.
