I am happy to present to you our 46th local business spotlighted in the Pay it Forward feature – Knight’s Auto & Tire Services. Our recent Lake County business featured was Auto Glass Ortiz and the owners, Ramon & Sonia Ortiz, chose to Pay it Forward to Knight’s Auto & Tire Services. The catch is that I will not choose the next business to interview, but the current spotlighted business will choose who I will interview next. Local businesses will Pay it Forward.
Knight’s Auto & Tire Services is locally owned and operated by Richard Knight, who offers a one-stop shop for all of your automotive needs.
Their team of experienced mechanics is dedicated to providing top notch service to every customer. Knight’s Auto & Tire Services offers a wide range of services – auto repair, oil changes, tire services and more.
1. Why did you decide to start your own business?
I decided to start my business here in Lakeport so that I could have all the freedoms of being my own boss, like making decisions about how my business is run, providing a unique service to the area including specialized “projects,” setting my own hours, avoiding long commutes, etc.

3. How does your business look now vs. when you first started?
My business has grown considerably since I began, including gaining the trust and respect of many regular customers with whom I’ve built solid relationships, forming my own brand and being active in the racing community (Medieval Motorsports), and adding specialized equipment over the years as I have been able.
4. How do you set your business apart from others in the industry?
I offer a variety of specialty work and take on long-term projects, which my customers tell me is unique to the area.
5. What is the hardest part of being an entrepreneur?
It’s tough not knowing exactly what my income level will be month to month. I always need to prepare and “save for that rainy day.”
6. What is your favorite part of being an entrepreneur?
I have enjoyed meeting many different customers over the years and offering them solutions for their various jobs & projects. I also can’t beat being in control of my destiny and making my own decisions.
7. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I would love to have a chance to visit several European countries and take in the history, culture and food. Also, it would be nice to get a vacation; which are few and far between being a small business.
