I am happy to present to you our 40th local business spotlighted in the Pay it Forward feature – La Fiesta Market.

Our recent Lake County business featured was Rico’s Cabinets and owner, Jose Rico chose to Pay it Forward to La Fiesta Market.

The catch is that I will not choose the next business to interview, but the current spotlighted business will choose who I will interview next. Local businesses will Pay it Forward.

La Fiesta Market is locally and family owned and operated business that features authentic Mexican food with large portions; serving up Mexican staples for breakfast, lunch and dinner with daily and weekend specials.

La Fiesta also features a market with a wide variety of bakery items, snacks, fresh produce, traditional candies and a wide variety of cold drinks to go.

The next time you are craving authentic Mexican food head to La Fiesta and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. You can enjoy dining in, takeout and/or catering.

1. Why did you decide to start your business?

We started our restaurant because we wanted to share the authentic flavors of Mexico with our community. Cooking is in our blood, passed down from our parents and grandparents, and we wanted to bring a taste of home to a new place. It was also a way to create a better future for our family and build something of our own.

2. How do you deal with fear and doubt?

Fear and doubt are part of the journey, but we remind ourselves why we started and think about the people who depend on us. We lean on each other as a family and take things one day at a time. When things get tough, we pray and stay focused on our goals.

3. How does your business look different now vs. when you first started?

When we first started, it was just a small place with a few tables and a simple menu. We did everything ourselves—cooking, cleaning, serving. Now, we have a larger space, more employees, and a wider menu with dishes people have come to love. We’ve learned a lot along the way and have grown in ways we never imagined.

4. How do you set your business apart from others in your industry?

We stay true to our roots and make everything from scratch, just like back home. We use recipes that have been in our family for generations, and we focus on making our customers feel like they’re part of the family, too. We offer traditional dishes that are hard to find elsewhere, and we make sure that everything we serve is made with love.

5. What is the hardest part of being an entrepreneur?

The hardest part is the responsibility. There’s always something that needs attention, and we have to make decisions that affect not just us, but our employees and customers too. It’s a lot of pressure, and there’s not always a clear answer. But we’ve learned to trust our instincts and each other.

6. What is your favorite part of being an entrepreneur?

The best part is seeing people enjoy our food and knowing that we created something special. We love hearing our customers say that our dishes remind them of home, or that they bring their family and friends to our restaurant because it feels like a warm and welcoming place. That makes all the hard work worth it.

7. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

We would travel back to our hometown in Mexico. It’s been a long time since we’ve been there, and we miss the people, the culture, and the simple way of life. We would love to reconnect with our roots, see family, and bring back even more inspiration for our restaurant.
