Pay It Forward – Middletown Florist & Gifts

I am happy to present to you our thirtieth local business spotlighted in the Pay it Forward feature – Middletown Florist & Gifts.

Our recent Lake County business featured was Bottlerock Candle Studio Artisan + Home + Body + Soul and owner, Jennifer Gayda chose to Pay it Forward to Middletown Florist & Gifts.

The catch is that I will not choose the next business to interview, but the current spotlighted business will choose who I will interview next. Local businesses will Pay it Forward.

Middletown Florist & Gifts is locally owned and operated by Julie Willis, Ellen Munk & Mary Costa; creating and providing exquisite floral arrangements, delivery, local gifts and more.

Middletown Florist & Gifts offers a beautiful website filled with colorful floral options—everything from spring bouquets to cherry blossoms to a unique designer’s choice arrangement. They even offer matching cards to accompany your bouquet. They offer all occasions: birthdays, sympathy, congratulations, get-wells, anniversaries, and more.

The talented trio generously supports the community and is always featuring local artisan creations at their studio.

Middletown Florist & Gifts is your go-to place for fresh floral arrangements, gifts & local gift creations!

1. Why did you decide to start your own business?

The three of us wanted to have more control of our work environment, along with being more available to our kids/grandkids. We are very active, and having our own schedule helps the kids have more time for sports/horses and vacations.

2. How do you deal with fear and doubt?

We keep a positive attitude and discuss openly what concerns us so we can come

together and problem-solve to avoid feeling this way.

3. How does your business look different now vs. when you first started?

Our business has grown quite a bit. We offer more local items, the freshest florals possible and have a much larger selection than when we first opened.

4. How do you set your business apart from others in your industry?

We watch for trends and keep products of good quality available. Our florals are fresh off the plant weekly, and our products are always changing to keep up with the demand of the community/economy.

5. What is the hardest part of being an entrepreneur?

Balancing home life and work life. When you’re a business owner, sometimes you can’t leave work.

6. What is your favorite part of being an entrepreneur?

Being such a huge part of our community and getting the support from them along with delivering flowers to someone. When they are surprised and wearing a huge smile, it makes your day great knowing you played a part in making their day.

7. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

There are so many places we would love to travel but our dream is to travel our country together – take the back roads of the United States and explore the small towns and unique antique shops. We love finding little treasures while traveling.
