I am happy to present to you our second local business spotlighted in the Pay it Forward feature – The Angry Baker Kitchen Store.
Our first Lake County business featured was Kristen Miller, owner of Infinity Consignment Boutique, who chose to Pay it Forward to Gillian Gallagher, owner of The Angry Baker Kitchen Store.
The catch is that I will not choose the next business to interview, but the current spotlighted business will choose who I will interview next. Local businesses will Pay it Forward.
The Angry Baker Kitchen Store is a boutique kitchen store offering unique gifts, expansive classes, gift registry and gift cards. Gillian has been known to create some mouth-watering temptations available at her store – everything from shortbread cookies to vanilla white chocolate cupcakes and much more.
1. What is your favorite part of being an entrepreneur?
The community. I have made the greatest connections with people within the community because of my business. I have learned so much from the people around me and have made friendships that will last a lifetime. These experiences have been priceless and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
2. What qualities do you think every entrepreneur should possess?
Confidence. You can do this. Not every day is successful, but never forget where you started and remind yourself how far you’ve come.
3. How have you grown personally from becoming an entrepreneur?
Owning my own business has made me a better person. I have true confidence in myself and my work. I make mistakes, and not every day is a win but I know who I am, where I want to be and what role I play in this community. I have a true sense of self and finally feel like I have found my calling. I love providing a beautiful place for people to shop in or being a part of their happiest moments, birthdays, weddings, parties etc.
4. What have been some of your biggest learning experiences in running a business?
The other businesses in your industry are not your competitors. They can be your greatest asset and allies. If you are starting out, reach out to fellow business owners and ask them questions. The worst thing they’ll say is no. And you will find out that most people are very forth giving and helpful when approached in a nice and open manner. You never know when you’ll need change, run out of bags, or forget to take your sign in at night. These people are here for you; don’t take it for granted.
5. What will you never compromise on with your business?
My Brand, there are so many wonderful people creating and making items, but there is only one me. I have a certain aesthetic and I try my hardest to stick with it, to maintain my uniqueness. I love when people recognize my work when it is unlabeled.
6. If you could spend the day with anyone (living or not) who would it be and why?
My grandmother. I used to cook with my grandma all the time as a child and I wish I could show her who I have become as an adult and enjoy it with her.
