Pay it Forward: Toads Jump

I am happy to present to you our 32nd local business spotlighted in the Pay it Forward feature – Toads Jump.

Our recent Lake County business featured was Middletown Mail & More and Vehicle Registration Service and owner, Chanele Hellwege chose to Pay it Forward to Toads Jump.

The catch is that I will not choose the next business to interview, but the current spotlighted business will choose who I will interview next. Local businesses will Pay it Forward.

Toads Jump is locally owned and operated by Vanessa and Nick Caldwell; providing everything you need for your next unforgettable, once in a lifetime event. Whether it’s your backyard or a large corporate event, they specialize in making sure your event is a fun stress-free experience from start to finish.

Toads Jump offers an indoor fun center, water slides, bounce houses, obstacle courses, foam parties, Gellyball (a cross between Nerf and Paintball), concessions, table & chairs and so much more!

Toads Jump supports our local community and they also deliver to ALL of Lake County!

1. Why did you decide to start your own business?

Honestly, there is a funny story behind it. I never had the thought of owning a business outside of small direct sales companies. I was good friends with the previous owner of the company. We happened to be having a conversation and it was brought up that he wanted to sell the business. My husband I talked it over and decided to buy the business. The funny part of the story is actually from years prior. I used to work for the previous owner as a customer service representative and he said his best friend and him were starting a bounce house company, I laughed in his face and thought he was joking. Fast forward to five years later, we bought the company from him.

2. How do you deal with fear and doubt?

I try to stay as positive as possible. The one thing I have learned is if you focus on the negative in life more negative comes your way. While I do not live by the book The Secret, I definitely find that if I keep a positive outlook, the world sends positivity my way.

3. How does your business look different now vs. when you first started?

When we first started we brought the business from a different county, it was just like starting fresh. We focused on what we can do for the community and have since grown into our Indoor Fun Center. We are no longer JUST a backyard or private bounce house rental company, we provide the community a fun place to come to and burn off energy and jump in bounce houses, interact with friends, play games, and hopefully bring even more fun activities!

4. How do you set your business apart from others in your industry?

I would say our customer service and safety standards set us apart. On top of that, Toads Jump provides incredible options like Gellyball (think of a cross between Nerf and Paintball), which is low impact blaster-type game and fun for ages 5 and up (and yes, even adults have a blast!!), Foam Parties (Bubble overload, sometimes a pile of bubbles taller than my son) with color options and even a glow option for night time, and multiple water options like a variety of waterslides and dunk tanks! Plus when you throw in fun inflatables, our desire to help the community, a fun place for kids and families to visit, and a team that has a can-do attitude you can’t go wrong with that!!

5. What is the hardest part of being an entrepreneur?

Staying positive when things do not go the direction you were hoping for and always feeling like you are working.

6. What is your favorite part of being an entrepreneur?

Meeting our customers and getting to know them. Since opening out Indoor Fun Center we have had wonderful conversations with customers that remind us why we love the business! Plus having our kids with us while operating the business is something many people don’t get to do…surprisingly; they are not tired of bouncing every day!

7. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Currently, probably Disneyland. With our kids being 5 and 7 right now they have been begging us to go there.
