Lake County Poet Laureate Emerita Georgina Marie Guardado will join Mendocino College to teach ENG 503: Creative Writing for Older Adults this fall at the Ukiah campus. The class will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 1:30 PM – 4:35 PM beginning August 19th. The semester will end in December. The class is non-credit with a $12 fee for the full semester.
While the class description states it is for older adults, all ages over 12 are welcome, along with writing in all genres, from fiction and nonfiction to poetry and playwriting.
This course will introduce adults to a variety of creative writing skills, providing an opportunity to recall, organize, and share life experiences through written expression. Students will have the opportunity to sharpen both creative writing and computer skills, as well as interact with a supportive community of fellow writers.
Guardado is the Poet Laureate Emerita of Lake County, CA for 2020-2024, and a Poets Laureate Fellow with The Academy of American Poets. She is the Literacy Program Coordinator for the Lake County Library and Marketing Director for Aunt Lute Books. In her free time, she serves as Board President of the Mendocino Coast Writers’ Conference. Her work has appeared in various journals and publications. She enjoys working with writers of all levels of experience to cultivate community and nurture creativity.
