You know that place. It’s your go-to destination with friends, family, celebrations, date nights, business meetings, and all the in-betweens. It’s set apart, away from it all, and there’s no place quite like it in Lake County. Where are you at? Red’s At The Skyroom, of course.
Fall crisp colors shine bright. It’s not too hot or cold and the perfect temperature to roll down the windows. The sun’s slanted light brings out the golden browns and bright yellows of the season. One is fully immersed in all of Autumn’s beauty. It’s a short drive outside Lakeport off Hwy 29. A few leaves scatter under your tires behind you as you turn just past the tarmac at Lamson Field. A few airplanes have just landed, and others are waiting for their next take-off. Finally, you’ve arrived at your destination. A modest white building stands at the edge of the runway, waiting for your meal. Beyond it stretch multiple vineyards; it fits that the airport is settled in Lake County wine country.
A few steps away is the choice of indoor or outdoor seating; both have a full view of the runway and mountains in the distance. Bright red metal tables and chairs welcome guests for a more casual dining experience. The corner table, perfect weather, and unique view encourage many to enjoy a relaxed time at Red’s.
Moments later, Red’s seasonal menu tempts appetites of all sizes. Take the Ahi Poke Bowl–the perfect balance of mixed greens and jasmine rice topped with, you guessed it, Ahi, making each bite bright. A sweet soy glaze brings a tang, making it a fresh, healthy choice. For the heartier appetite, you might meet your match with the WTF Burger. This Angus beef patty is topped with bacon and a generous helping of gorgonzola cheese, aioli sauce, bigger-than-life grilled onion, and a pickle for good measure.
For a quick stop, Red’s appetizer menu is perfect for the just-because visit, whether one enjoys the sensible warm olives or, better yet, Red’s grazing board with a variety of artisan cheeses, bread, and other surprises. Or you can spoil your appetite with Red’s Zombie fries, topped with roasted pork, cheddar cheese, and Alabama white sauce.
The roar of an engine reminds everyone this isn’t an ordinary Lake County dining experience. A plane makes its way to the runway, and everyone’s food and drinks give up the center stage to the idling of the engine. The roar fills the air, consuming all attention for only a few moments. But, it’s a sight worth seeing. It isn’t every day that one gets a front-row seat and a chance to witness the science of flying transform into art, enticing the imagination. And then the moment ends, and chatter fills the void as your food becons your attention again.
On a good day, these moments come and go throughout your stay at Red’s, making every dining experience just that, an experience. It’s such a joy that it’s often hard to leave. So, to make your visit longer, Red’s always offers seasonal desserts deserving of one’s time and attention. And there’s always one more plane to watch land.
