Lisa Jones greets me from the back room as her cheerful assistant, Kathy, leads me down the long hallway to a large room oozing with creativity. The professional and sturdy sewing machines are strategically placed throughout the room. These are not your grandmother’s Singers as these immense and elaborate seamstress tools display a more professional presence.

I introduce you to Throckmorton Jones…What is Throckmorton Jones? Founding designer Lisa Jones will tell you it is a boutique, gallery, and atelier offering unique custom clothing and accessories for both men and women.

She is the master, the designer, and the visionary who can transform your clothing, heirlooms, and more into a kaleidoscope of individuality that matches your unique self.

Throckmorton Jones is more than a brand – it is her namesake.

“Personal style over trend,” she says.

This hidden gem screams inquisitive charm as Lisa and Kathy kindly provide me with a grand tour at 341 N Main, the home of Throckmorton Jones.

As I begin my tour, I am drawn to the racks of textiles Lisa has transformed into impeccable and unique handcrafted creations – everything from capes to costumes to colorful denims to exquisite custom belts with a statement. The vibe is both classic and funky rolled into one.

I immediately knew when I walked through the front door that this establishment did not represent your typical retail/sales concept. Surrounded by racks of denims, dresses, jackets and more, adorned with a rainbow of bright colors and embroidery would delight even your average Joe who prefers to be high on drab perceptions.

Lisa and her husband/business partner, Ron Tomassini, moved to Lake County from Novato, California. They had outgrown their home workshop of 8 years and needed a commercial workshop to purchase. Their search began in 2016, scouring areas of Novato, Point Richmond, Alameda, Vallejo, Petaluma Sonoma and Napa.

It wasn’t until January of 2021 when Ron discovered the available Lakeport property that was somewhat within their travel range, and definitely within their price range.

They considered leasing the building as an investment property, but the more time they spent in quaint Lake County, the more they fell in love with the community, the space and the location.

Ron contributes his creative talents to Throckmorton Jones through state-of-the-art web design and graphic arts. While Lisa has been a designer for over 15 years, sharing her vision, helping others see the bigger picture of individuality through quality craftsmanship that is intertwined in every piece she touches. She shares with me a customized shirt that has been personalized with love; highlighting a client’s loss of a dear friend through his chosen words, colors and embroidery directly onto a shirt.

There is a belief about fashion that Lisa promotes – “It is about personal style and NOT trend.”

As I look over my shoulder, I spot a kilt and then a vest entrusted to her care by clients with detailed requests. The vision hits me, and I get it. Be You. Do You. Wear You.

Throckmorton Jones designs a variety of leather goods – belts, bags, denim (including new capes), and custom needs. They are a complete styling service for wardrobe, photo shoots, and costume design.

We walk further and offset from the downstairs hallway are two additional rooms – one stacked with unique textiles and fabrics in an array of colors. Lisa explains to me her use of end-lots of fabrics. End lots are referred to as new, unused, remaining portions of material that has been designed, produced and/or purchased for a specific project in mind.

These remnants of waste are turned into a work of art through Throckmorton Jones’s impeccable quality craftsmanship. They care about the environment while stimulating the economy.

“We do not want to see that material in the landfills or sitting around so long that it becomes unusable.”

The concept is brilliant.

Lisa believes in bringing the community together and has hosted community events of flower making, belt making, bag making and vision boards. They have plans to continue hosting these events in one of the many spacious rooms upstairs.

Their next chapter will embark on bringing the community talents together in one place, sharing a variety of unique talents. Come together. Stay Tuned.

Throckmorton Jones will be celebrating their Grand Opening on September 22, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at 341 N Main Street in Lakeport.
