One special thing about Lake County is that we don’t have all the chain stores you’ll find elsewhere. And while it’s always fun to take a trip to the city to do some shopping, there are plenty of places right here where you can pick out the perfect gift for a loved one. Here are a dozen of our favorites.
If you’ve got a Dungeons and Dragons fan in your life, you have to stop by The Dragon’s Den in Upper Lake. It’s filled with lots of themed gifts, plus a large selection of Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and lots of other imagination-based games to enjoy. The one thing you won’t find here are video games. But trust me; you won’t miss them once you enter the Dragon’s Den.
Just down the road from The Dragon’s Den, you’ll find Upper Lake Hobby Toys. Here you’ll find a great selection of RC vehicles, from rock crawlers to airplanes. If smaller toys are more your thing, you’ll find a plethora of Hot Wheels, Legos, science STEM projects, models, and Nerf guns.
Stop by Middletown Mercantile to pick up unique items you won’t find anywhere else in the county. Owners Reuben and Cassie Koontz bring a special, artistic touch to all they carry. Step inside, and you’ll see some of Reuben’s artwork welded into unique shapes and furniture. Plus, they’ve got a great selection of fine cigars, accessories, camping items, unique foods, and local products.
For something you won’t find anywhere else in the world, stop by Throckmorton Jones, located in Lakeport. They specialize in customized bags, clothes, and accessories designed just for you. Yes, it’s that specific, and they prioritize your personal style over standardized fashion trends. If you come with an idea for a gift, they will create something unique for you or your loved ones.
Middletown Florist and Gifts is an amazing place to pick up a handcrafted bouquet of flowers, but it’s got so much more. The shop carries a collection of locally-made items as well as thoughtful gifts, like old-fashioned toys, books, games, and handmade stuffed animals. And they have beautiful pop-up cards to send to family out of town. Pick up some flowers for a loved one, then complement them with a special present.
Bottlerock Candle Studio in Kelseyville has a large selection of one-of-a-kind candles. They also offer wax melts, dough bowl candles, and macrame. It’s certain you’ll find something delightfully unique here.
The Home Decor Store in Middletown is a coop of artisan makers that specialize in all kinds of modern country home decorations, from repurposed furniture to wine glasses. It’s brand new, and only had been open since October. All the more reason to stop by, explore the large selection of products, and grab something special.
Fixin’ it Up with Sandra in Lakeport is a great place to get a gift. It’s got a regularly rotating inventory comprised of 30% items handmade by Sandra, 30% created by local artisans, and 30% thoughtfully purchased at yard sales and from local distributors.
If there’s one place you have to stop for stocking stuffers, it’s A+H General Store in Kelseyville. Not only does it have a large selection of candy, but it’s also got toys, hats, games, mugs, and just about everything else, so you’re certain to pick up at least one (or ten) great gifts.
Just a few doors down from A+H, Fritz and Mishell offers more than just the run-of-the-mill jewelry you could find in any mall. It’s a special jewelry store that features a tasteful selection of purchased items complemented by a large selection of in-house handcrafted jewelry, and it’s all beautiful and unique. From silver to gold to Lake County Diamonds, you’ll find it here.
For a little bit of class, a little bit of pampering, and a little bit of fun, stop by at Sophie’s Day Spa on Main Street in Kelseyville. Not only does Sophie’s offer full spa services, but it’s also got ice cream, wine, and a huge selection of gifts. It’s the perfect place to stop for a new set of eyelashes and pick up the perfect gift.
Filled with all things gaming, Kingdom Games in Clearlake is one of the best places in Lake County to pick up a great gift for your favorite video gamer. Step inside, and you’ll be inundated by board, card, role-playing, and video games. But don’t worry about getting overwhelmed; all the employees are knowledgeable and willing to help.
