KIDS’ FARMER’S MARKET Outdoor Bake Sale with the Ukiah Branch Library
The Ukiah Branch Library invites all children and young adults aged 5 to 17 to join us in our 37th year of hosting the Kids’ Farmer’s Market! This annual summer bake sale is designed as a learning opportunity for young farmers and entrepreneurs to learn the skills of sales and bartering, cash-based math, design, gardening, and display with the intention of creating, growing, marketing, and selling handmade and/or homegrown products. All items for sale must be handmade, in whole or in part by the children.
This year’s market will be held on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon starting on June 17, and vendors will set up their stations on the grassy areas of Alex Thomas Plaza. Vendor parking is available in the parking lot behind the Conference Center. Set-up is from 9 to 10 a.m. Vendors may not set up before 9 a.m. The final market of the season will be Wednesday, August 5.
There is no limit to the number of participants, and while families are encouraged to participate, children are expected to manage their own vendor stations. Children under age 12 must always be accompanied by an adult. Please note that the market will be canceled on days when the temperature exceeds 95 degrees Fahrenheit during market hours.

Crochet for Causes At the Ukiah Branch Library
The Ukiah Branch Library welcomes all fiber enthusiasts ages seven and up to a bi-weekly crochet class in the children’s room, perfect for anyone interested in learning how to make amigurumi creatures, small accessories, and other cute crochet items. Local teen fiber artist Aarya Desai will lead participants through a different project each session, with the goal of eventually creating crochet items for donation to medical patients in need. This class will take place every other Saturday from 2:30 – 3:30 pm beginning on July 25. We hope to see you there!

CONSERVATION AMBASSADORS’ WILD THINGS
Animals of the World at the Ukiah Library
This year’s summer reading program is coming to an end, and what better way to celebrate than meeting rescued animals? Join the Ukiah Branch Library in welcoming some of the animals from Conservation Ambassadors’ Wild Things on Friday, August 7 at 10:30 a.m. This fun program will teach attendees about a variety of amazing animals that can be found roaming our
beautiful planet, as well as how we can help keep them safe.

ART WALK UKIAH

Oil Paintings on Canvas by Michael Nolan
The Ukiah Branch Library invites the community to join us for an Art Walk opening on Friday, August 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. The library will feature an oil painting show by local artist Michael Nolan.
Nolan was classically trained by master visionary art painter Bill Martin. Nolan’s subjects are picturesque locations throughout Mendocino County, from a Fort Bragg beach to State Street in Ukiah. Nolan has painted all but one of his pieces outside and on-site. He enjoys reflecting on his memories of the many hours he spent in scenic places, capturing every detail of each locale. The
branch will host live ukulele music by A Little Bit of Comptche. During the Art Walk opening, guests can enjoy an all-ages tiny canvas craft and a robust book sale hosted by the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library.
This art exhibition is free to the public, open to all ages, and is sponsored by the kind and generous support of the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library and Mendocino County Library. The exhibit runs July 1 to August 28. Please note that the Ukiah Branch Library will not host an Art Walk event in July. Bedazzled Books
A Hands-On Program
Books! You love their covers. You love their feel. You love the smell. You love how their stories glimmer! Now you’re invited to the Ukiah Branch Library to make the outside of a book glimmer just as much as the story does inside. Join us on Friday, August 28 from 3 to 5 p.m. for book bedazzling, in which we add faceted rhinestones to books’ cover designs and titles. Four
different book titles, rhinestones in the appropriate matching colors, and all other necessary supplies will be provided. You are also welcome to bring a book of your own to bedazzle. This Makerspace program is for ages 12 and older.

The Yokayo Seed Project is hosting our annual Produce & Pantry Share series this fall. Bring your surplus homegrown produce or non-perishable pantry goods to share. Prevent food waste and feed the community!
Here’s how it works:
Community members bring their surplus homegrown produce or non-perishable, non-expired, unopened pantry items to the Ukiah Library. Everyone is invited to visit the library during the event to pick up the free produce and food to take home.
These events will take place on the following dates from 2 to 4 p.m.: August 29, September 26,
and October 24.
