Hello November. You sure showed up in a hurry! This month, all month long, is American Indian Heritage Month. That got me thinking about where I came from. Thanks to the help of a DNA test, it was confirmed that my ancestors on my maternal side came across the land bridge to North America and became the Cree Nation. I also found out that the man who raised me wasn’t my biological father – shock! Although I have never felt any attachment to my paternal side of the family (now I know why), I know that they must have arrived in North America filled with hopes and dreams. Now, my maternal side is quite clear to me. I have been told many times my grandmother’s story and how her hopes, dreams, and future were quite literally stolen from her. And then I showed up a few generations later. How strangely human is my story. And here we all are, neighbors to one another.
