1st place winning poem of the 2023 Pear Poetry Contest sponsored by the Kelseyville Pear Festival. In The Pear Grove It was the end of summer Standing among The sweet, crisp smell The swaying of the odd, lumpy Fruit I saw you there You looked at me Adeline! Voice of my mother The sway of a patchwork apron Calling me back to that timeline I looked back But you were gone What's your favorite? A calm quiet voice said nearby I turned to see your hazel sunset eyes Taking me in Hard and sweet, I said You smiled I remember that day On this vast, changed, now ancient Orchard Half vineyard A pear, Its own lovely flavors My whole life In the curve of the Fruits' belly The woody stem Dancing in the barn Laughter Snow falling quietly, My first kiss Among the trees With you Holding this plump Cartoon of a fruit Held to my lips Bite With a sweet smile
