I’m sitting here rockin’ out to some Classical Music, you know, all that longhair stuff, and I made a discovery. When I listen to Rock, Blues, Reggae, even Americana, I get easily distracted. I’m constantly looking to see who the artist is, maybe grabbing my guitar to play along, looking for vids. But I found Classical to be calming, not distracting. Perhaps that’s the difference between me taking 7 hours to put this music guide together and only 3 hours with Classical blasting over the stereo. Maybe Arnold was actually saying, “I’ll be Bach!” … Anyways, here’s the live music schedule for the week of 8/18 through 8/25…
If it’s Tuesday, it’s prolly Kelsey Creek Brewing where the loyal patrons hoist their glasses of fine handcrafted brews while the music of Buskin’ for Brewskis fills the air from 3 to 6:00. Regardless of what’s on the menu, expect it to be a Motley Breü… (Jason, I expect this to be the name of one of your upcoming brews…). Yep, it must be Tuesday, alright…
At the Clear Lake Grange #680 on Big Valley Rd in Funley, there will be 2 events this week. On Tuesday evening, AudioSoul will be rockin’ the joint from 6 to 9:00. Be sure to bring your dancin’ shoes… Then on Friday, a new band, Retros, is coming into town to play the Grange from 7 to 10:00. These guys are a North Bay area band who are currently making a name for themselves.
It’s time for another Humpday Howler at the Smiling Dogs Ranch on Kelsey Creek Drive on Wednesday when the fabulous Fargo Bros take the porch and rock the pool area from 5:30 to 8:30. Nobody does it as good as the Fargos. Bring a chair, a hat, maybe a snack, enjoy your favorite SDR wines, and then let your feet do the talkin’…
Up in Clearlake Oaks, at the Moose Lodge #2284, it’ll be another Veterans Supper where Vets eat for free, while non-Vets pay $10, with proceeds going to local Veterans organizations. Up on the stage (and under the moose) will be Danny Prather and Mike Guarniero doing that strum and sing thing from 5 to 7:00. They have a full bar and a big dance floor…
Over in Lakeport at the On the Waterfront Restaurant on 3rd Street, there will be an excellent menu that’ll meet your approval, as well as an extensive wine and microbrew list, plus on Wednesday you get the musical selections of Jim Williams from 6 to 8:00. FYI, OTW has been voted in the top 5 of LC restaurants, just sayin’…
On Wednesday evening in Lakeport at Andre’s Lounge, you can catch the piano mastery of Composer Nicky Hinds from 7 to 9:00. Heard great things about this performer. Come see what Andre’s done with the place…
Back to Clearlake Oaks at Buddy’s Coffeehouse, you can grab a snack, a coffee drink on Thursday, then rock out to the music of the Al G Bloome Project from 4 to 7-ish.
And back in the center of the universe, the Saw Shop Public House has (count ‘em) 3 evenings of fun music, starting with Thursday when Surf specialists, The Vultures, hang ten under the gazebo with a fun set of music that’ll take you back to the days of Hullabaloo from 6 to 9, Dudes! Then on Friday, my favorite new band on the scene, the Classic Set, will ignite the Backyard from 6 to 9:00 with songs you’ll surely be singing along with. And on Saturday, get a little bit of Country, a little bit of Rock, a little bit of Blues with Broken Trucks – all from 6 to 9:00. Great food, a full bar. Be sure to say hi to Weston while you’re there…
The big event of the week will be the Kelseyville Kickin’ in the Country Street Dance, happenin’ on Thursday from 7 to 9:00 and featuring the outstanding Roy Rogers and the Delta Rhythm Kings. I used to see them in the 1980s and ‘90s, and they were- I can’t think of a superlative that fits better than GREAT! You’ll love them too…
Take a step up to the mountain where, at Adams Springs Golf Course, there will be Bingo and Music on Thursday evening, featuring local faves, Broken Trucks, S.C.A.M. and Richard Boissell (of the Lost Coast Smugglers) starting at 6:00. Hot food, full bar, and the air is cleaner, the temps cooler up in the mountain…
Back to Lakeport at Harlowe’s Lounge (formerly O’Meara Bros), where on Friday evening you can grab a great meal, bevs from a full bar, and the music of Adam Gabriel from 7 to 10:00. This could be the “new” perfect place for a date night…
If you’re in the Middletown area, why not drop by the Martin Pohl’s Wines Tasting Room (formerly the Boar’s Breath) on Friday evening and enjoy your favorite wine varietals in an organic format while groovin’ to the music of Mike Guarniero (hey! That’s me!), from 7:30 to 9:30. I promise you won’t be disappointed…
Also in Middletown, Twin Pine Casino will present the music of the Dustin Saylor Band on Friday and Saturday nights from 9:30 to 1:30. Have an excellent meal in the Manzanita room, take a chance at the tables and slots, then get in some dancing. It’s always a win-win!
Back to Lakeport to the Soper-Reese Theater, where on Saturday afternoon the Lake County Symphony presents a Summer Chamber Concert featuring some of the works of the greatest composers in Western history, with Conductor John Parkinson and Concert Master Andi Skelton starting at 2:00 and costing $25-30. Thank you for supporting the Soper-Reese…
In the bayside Rivi-area, the Richmond Park Bar ‘n’ Grill always offers the most in live music entertainment, and this weekend will be no different. On Saturday afternoon, Beatz Werkin’ will dazzle you with musical brilliance from 2 to 5:00. Then, starting at 6:00, you get to rock out to Live the Day, Hexafiend, and Wretched Sea. Then on Sunday, the band Covenant 3 will rock your world starting at 2:00. Hot food, cool drinks from a full bar, and the place that always brings the party to you…
Up in that nice little town of Nice, the Boathouse Bar/Stowaway Grill will provide great food, a full bar, and a lively outdoor atmosphere, while on Saturday afternoon the Retros rock the patio from 3 to 7:00. Then on Sunday you’ll be rockin’ when Uncle Mercy takes the stage from 3 to 7:00. What would be a more perfect place to wrap up your weekend?…
The Shannon Ridge Mercantile in Funley is pulling out all the stops this Saturday when the Fargo Bros rock the patio from 4 to 7:00. They always have a gourmet food truck on site for your hunger, and of course, plenty of Shannon Ridge wines to choose from (my fave is the Buck Shack Zin!), but the special treat would be those fargin Fargos!…
The Hidden Valley Lake Concert on the Green this Saturday will feature the band Cover Me Badd from 5 to 9:00. Beer and wine, craft vendors, and BBQ will make it an evening to remember…
The Riviera Hills Lounge in the Rivi-area always offers good food, a full bar, and an outstanding sunset view, but on Saturday you also get the Classic Rock music of Fogg Revisited outdoors from 6 to 10:00. Come get your USRDA of Pink Floyd and other classics. Then on Sunday it’ll be another 1st Sunday Open Jam (except it’s the 4th Sunday, DUH!) from 5 to 9:00. Those who’ve been know how rockin’ good this event is – with pros coming from all over the North Bay area and Sacramento, as well as some of the best Lake County has to offer. It’s outdoors, so come have some fun!…
The Loch Lomond Roadhouse has scheduled Austin & Owens to play on Saturday evening from 6 to 9:00, but it’s a good idea to call before you drive up there.
Up in Nice at Robinsons Rancheria Casino, you can play some cards, pull some slots, grab a meal, some bevs from a full bar, then rock out to the Country Rock music of the Ariel Jean Band from 8 to midnight. Hey, it could be your lucky night!…
And finally, the Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake, which still offers 6 gigs in 5 days, will present on Friday the Jazz-ish music of Majide from 6 to 8:00. Then on Saturday evening, Steve “Dr. Woozle” Smith will offer fun, silly, quirky and even introspective songs from 6 to 8:00. For the BW’s Sunday Brunch, a special menu will be offered along with the music of Twining Time from 11:30 to 2:00. I saw this duo this last weekend and I guarantee you will love them. For the Sunday Night with Nancy Wright, where Nancy accompanies some of your favorite local musicians to show off both of their skills, this time with Andy Rossoff, an excellent New Orleans stylist, from 6 to 8:00. For the Monday Blues Series, 1,4,5 specialists the Hip Replacements will lay down the groove from 6 to 8:00. And wrapping up the week will be famous musician Paul Kemp performing on the piano for the Tuesday Mid-week Supper Special, Plate Twirling Extravaganza, Dog and Pony Show and Other Assorted Talents, (you really need a catchy acronym!), all from, you guessed it – 6 to 8:00. It’s always a good idea to make reservations for all of these events…
Just a couple extra things you might be interested in:
On Friday evening at Guenoc Winery outside Middletown, there will be some Line Dancing Lessons from Joelle Jerden from 5 to 7:00. Two thumbs up! Also, on Saturday afternoon at the Museum Park in Lakeport, there will be a “Sing-Along For Democracy” event from Noon until 3:00.
