Everyone has stories worth sharing. This fall, Mendocino College Lake Center invites older adults to explore their creativity, develop their writing skills, and bring those stories to life in ENG 503: Creative Writing for Older Adults.
The 17-week course begins Wednesday, August 19, and meets weekly through December 9, 2026. The cost is just $15 for the entire course.
Led by instructor Jonah Wakefield, the class offers a welcoming and supportive place to experiment with memoir, personal history, fiction, poetry, and other forms of creative writing. Students will explore writing techniques, share ideas, and develop projects inspired by their experiences and imaginations.
“Everyone has a story worth telling,” Wakefield said. “This class gives people the encouragement, tools, and community they need to begin writing those stories and sharing them with others.”
The course welcomes writers at every level, including complete beginners and experienced writers looking for fresh inspiration. No previous creative writing experience is required.
